The AHCCCS Independent Oversight Committees on Behavioral Health are established in accordance with ARS § 41-3802 and 41-3804. The AHCCCS IOC committee by regions are currently serving: Central Arizona, Northern Arizona, and Southern Arizona. The Committees are comprised of 7-15 members who are clients, or family members of clients, and professionals with expertise in these areas: psychology, law, medicine, education, special education, social work, mental health, housing for the mentally ill, criminal justice, and public safety. Committees shall also have, when appropriate, two parents of a member who is receiving services. Current or former providers or employees of providers that have contracted with a RBHA may serve on the committee but may not hold more than two positions. Each IOC may hold community forums. According to statute AHCCCS shall ensure that each RBHA and its providers develop and implement human rights training plans ensuring that providers are properly certified or qualified (as appropriate).
